Miami is a southern city. The South is a very diverse region with many flavors - Miami is just one of them. Being majority Hispanic or having lots of transplants does not remove a city from it's region.

I think you may be confused about what it means to be southern. In 2014 it is not the stereotype of the historical South, but a modern version that can't be defined by people who want to paint it with a very narrow brush. The South is Virginia to Florida to Texas and back. It's not really up for debate just because you know some transplants in Richmond and have moved around a lot.

Wow. I think it's past your bedtime.

Then I'll ask what I asked a bunch of pages ago. How would you characterize Richmond's modern southern culture? Where does it exist in the city today? Is Short Pump southern?

I'm not saying I disagree with your logic (fully at least), but just like the other poster who was trying to make this point, I have yet to receive an explanation as to Richmond's modern-day southern characteristics and where they exist in the city.

Baltimore is a dump.
The inner-harbor is it's only saving grace. Otherwise a very depressing, blue collar city that seems very very bleak.

Well, what makes the rest of the cities in the South southern? This includes but is not limited to...

Winston-Salem
Greensboro
Greenville-Spartanburg
Roanoke
Charlotte
Raleigh
Columbia
Augusta
Knoxville
Chattanooga
Etc.

Good question. I'll defer to those who seemingly know exactly what southern culture is, where it exists in each city and how modern southern urbanism is different from the north. My assumption is that we aren't just talking about theory.

I lived in Baltimore... There is nothing southern about Baltimore. I would know I was born in Texas. Baltimore is a GREAT MID-ATLANTIC CITY.
