We're hoping to emmigrate to the U.S shortly from the UK, we were initially looking at New Jersey but are open to any suggestions really of places that might be good for us.
My partner is a snr IT developer and so we're looking for anywhere where he could get a decent job but also that isn't too far away from green areas (doesnt have to be "countryside" but a local park or lake would be nice). I've always liked the look of Oregon or Washington but I don't know if opportunities are as prevalent there as they appear to be in the Nth-East for my other half (I can work anywhere).
We'd hope to find somewhere not too hot as we're both fair skinned and heat sensitive.

Any ideas gratefully appreciated as we're heading over to the states nxt week and will add suggestions to our itinerary

I believe there are many IT jobs in the Stamford, CT area. Fairfield County is a nice area to live and work - the only downside is the high cost of living. Good luck with your search and welcome to the states.

IT jobs are plentiful in the whole NYC area, DC/northern Virginia, Minneapolis (surprisingly), Seattle, Houston, San Fran/Bay Area. I think Chicago and Charlotte are decent as well. Really, as long as there are a least a few sizable Fortune 500 companies, you'll find the need for good IT developers.

The west coast has a lot of IT companies, particularly in California.

Northern Virginia has a lot of non-clearance (private sector) work in software. We also have plenty of work for hardware engineers, etc. but these jobs tend to require security clearances. A lot of the work here is for the government.
