The average man in NYC is around 5'4". I live in the Bronx and the majority of people are small. People who weren't born in NYC tend to be taller, especially if they're from Long Island originally. My classmate is Mexican but born in Suffolk County which is why he's tall, and there are a lot of small white people in Manhattan who were born and raised there.

The tallest men are supposedly in the states of Alabama and Iowa. I know this thread is an older one, but it's an interesting bit of trivia.

There's no way . I'm 5'7 and I'm sigifnicantly shorter than average in north Georgia. I was still short in the Northeast. Manhattan I'm much shorter than average. In the boroughs I'm slightly shorter than average

From what I saw Iowa was also in the top two for women, but Alabama wasn't in the top 10. Thought that was kind of interesting.

Charlotte area: I'm 6'0" and feel slightly above average here. Most men seem to be around 5'9"-5'10" or so. All 4 of our kids are 25-30 years of age. My 3 sons are 6'3", 5'11", 5'9". My wife is 5'7". Daughter is 5'11".

5'10". I feel "the good side of average." Basically I just plain never think about it.

I'm 6'1, from AZ and TN. Felt above average in both, not 'tall' though. When I visited New York, and while living in London and MENA, I felt tall, but not super tall. When backpacking through latin America, I felt fairly tall as well. I'd say the average guy in TN and AZ is around 5'8-6'0. I'm quite a bit shorter than my male siblings and father though - all of whom are 6'3-6'6. They are what I'd consider 'tall' with my 6'6 brother being very tall to the point where folks mention it often...

Average MAN is 5'4"? I don't believe that.

I live in Southern California and am female, 5'6". In my immediate surroundings this is average, maybe a shade above average. In an area that is more Hispanic or Asian majority, I feel taller.

My husband and son are both 6'1" and are taller than average, but not to a sticking-out-like-a-sore-thumb degree.
