I find this thread somewhat amusing and not to be taken seriously. There may be slight differences between States, but nothing really significant. The average height for adult men has been 69 inches (5 foot 9) for many decades. 80 percent are between 67 and 71 inches. (5’7 to 5’11)
I live in Southern California and am female, 5'6". In my immediate surroundings this is average, maybe a shade above average. In an area that is more Hispanic or Asian majority, I feel taller.
My husband and son are both 6'1" and are taller than average, but not to a sticking-out-like-a-sore-thumb degree.
Average for Asian and Hispanic men is 5’7”. I’m from a place with a lot of Portuguese-Azores that are similar. At 6’2”, I was tall. Nationally, I’d be 94th to 95th percentile. Locally, I was more like 97th percentile.
I'm 6'3, and the fellas I kick it with are 6'2-6'4. I don't pay much attention to my height, I like to blend in. For Houston, I'd say most guys are average height.
I am a 6', 1/2" female. I'm tall for almost anywhere...but five years ago I flew to Europe to meet up with my daughter who was stopping there on her way home from living in Asia.
I took Icelandair. The flight stopped in Rekjavik/Keflavik where I changed planes. Some of the people on the plane were going on to Oslo, the rest of us to Amsterdam.
I was at the gate at EWR waiting to board when I realized that I was standing among a bunch of people who were close to or above the same height as I was. Outside of family parties, this had never happened to me before. I am of Dutch descent and already knew the Dutch are the tallest people in the world, and there are apparently also a lot of very tall Scandinavians in the mix.
It was an amazing experience and so weird to experience being of "normal" height for the first time in my 55 years.
(Meanwhile, after a year of living in Asia, my somewhat shorter, 5'8" daughter texted me from the Helsinki airport that "OMG, everyone here is tall and speaks perfect English!")

I’m 5’9 and was slightly below average in NY...I felt well below average in CA. I now live in Miami where I feel average to slightly below average. The women are more to my liking here in Miami—not just more attractive but many more shorter/petite women to choose from which is my personal preference.
