Thought this video from 1990 was interesting; it really shows in depth what American suburbs and small cities looked like in the 80s and 90s. In some ways it's pretty familiar on a superficial level, yet so much has changed in the way we live and socialized. There are some other videos tagged to it as well including one inside the high school in Naperville, Illinois.
Not exactly sure what the point is. I suppose if you're under 25, 1990 is the olden days, but to the rest of us nothing looks all that different. Aside from information and communication at my fingertips via the internet, my life hasn't changed all that much.

The late 80s/early 90s was a long time ago. As close to the 60s as to today. Even a 70 year old was a relatively spring-chickeny 46 year old in 1990.
DEAR OP: No, 1990 was NOT that long ago. And one day, if you're lucky to live long enough, you'll understand that.
I find it humorous that a young person could look at this and think it looks "old." To me it looks completely normal.
You really think cars and signage from this decade look identical to cars and signs from the 80s/beginning of the 90s? Sure it's not the 40s but I definitely think there was a different aesthetic back then and that the changes are interesting.
I was a young adult in 1990, the video was a bit of a throwback to me. The biggest difference to me was the clunky looking boxy cars. Saw some cars in the video that I haven't seen in a while, like the Dodge Daytona. Some things however look very similar to today, as strip malls look the same whether it is 1950, 1980, 1990 or 2014. Suburban houses look the same too regardless of the year. It is funny I don't think of 1990 as that long ago, in a way I agree with Newsboy but I cannot deny that 1990 was 25 years ago and that was not yesterday. The world has changed a great deal since then. Back then most people had not even heard of the brand new cell phone tech, nor was the internet available. The Soviet Union still existed. However it was just a few short years later that todays tech world really exploded on the scene, and our lives are drastically different than they were in 1990. In fact 1990 in my opinion is the boundry between the "the old days" and todays technology centered era. Also the era of liberalism and political correctness that has been such a big part of life today like it or not started just after 1990. The social liberalism rose along with the technology. In 1990 we were far more traditional and far less dependent on technology. Again I think our society has changed in a huge way since then, and in my opinion it has not been for the better. Pre 1990 America was a better place, the people had better values, the nation was stronger as was its economy. The last 25 years have been ones of societal decline in my opinion. The video is historically relevant, its a quick view into a very transitional period in this nations history considering the rapid changes that took place in the following years.
