Hello, I am very interested in immigrating to the USA. My country (the Netherlands) has gone down the pits over the last couple decades and it is high time to get out. It is full of racism (in the US you have no idea what TRUE racism is), conformism, a perpertually declining economy, astronomical cost of living and the government-mandated destruction of our values. The USA is an incredible has stood for so much and offered it's citizens unparalleled opportunities. I spent six months in Pennsylvania and LOVED it! I will do almost anything to move to the USA. What steps do I need to take? I am a single 34 year old computer engineer who speaks fluent English.

Computer engineers are very much in demand. That's part of the reason you see lots of Indian and Chinese engineers in California. I don't know about Pennsylvania.
Basically, start applying for jobs, especially for companies where they will sponsor you for a visa.

Thanks for the information. I ahve been communicating with a job in California (silicon Valley) so we will see how that "pans out". I am open to living in any state. I really love them all. I have never been to most states but Georgia, California, Hawaii, Washington, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and even some of the Midwest sounds like a fascinating places! You are really lucky to have such a diverse selection to choose from.

Funny, you could get a number of people from almost any of the industrialized countries to say pretty much this exact thing. Europeans want to move here; Americans want to move there for many of the same reasons. The economy is rough pretty much all over.
Cost of Living in San Francisco is more or less on par with Amsterdam, with some things costing less (bottled water, fast food) and others (rent) likely to cost more.

I may be presuming too much, but from the way you phrased what I bolded, it sounds like you are socially conservative. If so, you may find that you would prefer life in one of our more conservative states, rather than one of our more liberal ones. That said, it's not as clear-cut as "State X is conservative and State Y is liberal." Though some definitely do lean more one way or the other, within any state, and even within any metro region, you will likely find like-minded people.

No a place like Howard County (I have been there would be perfect). In Netherlands left wing means wayyyyyyyyyyyy left wing. Columbia and Ellicott City are nearly utopia, and as close to heaven on earth as it gets. That is top 3 on my destinations. It is wealthy diverse, downtown in nice, little crime, the CA, close to Baltimore, DC, Philadelphia! You've got it made! I don't care about having "like minded people". I am not a conformist and would a diverse population. People can disagree with me as is the essence of democracy.
