Yes, it's what was called "The Black Belt"--the area of highest percentage of African-American population in the South... Down the Mississippi Delta and then just on the other side of the Piedmont on the coastal plains of the South where the best cotton growing land was... Still the highest percentages of African-Americans in the country outside of urban areas.
