I agree ! Raleigh and its narrow minded people suck. I'm leaving in a couple of weeks, and thank goodness for that !! Nothing to do here.

Raleigh/Durham job market is more diverse than Charlotte which is banking followed by more banking and they paid the price in the recession. Both are more family centered than singles oriented. That said though the college and the just afer college age will find Raleigh a good fit with the abundance of universities around. Charlottes downtown is pretty, but once you walk away from that it's just not as well kept, and I've heard from many crime is an issue. Raleigh is very much suburban heaven, and some nice museums, parks. Neither place will quicken your heartbeat. But both are comfortable and short drives to nice scenery of the mountains or beach.

People in Raleigh are not narrow minded, I've lived here my whole life and if anything as the city has grown and more transplants arrived are even more open minded and cosmopolitan than ever. Especially in the newer parts of town.

That's a puzzling sentiment. Now I'm not saying that everything surrounding Uptown is pristine, but there are very nice areas just outside of Uptown: Elizabeth, SouthEnd, Dilworth, Wesley Heights, etc.
