I'm really into deep underground electronic music and progressive, free-thinking people. Maybe some fringe anarchists too. What cities should be on my realistic dreams list?

Major city, cheap neighborhood and tons of culture, fringe anarchists=West Philly.

With the mild winters probably New Orleans.

Yeah mild winters are a necessity for me. And I'm looking for intellectual sophistication. Not that I have any idea whether or not New Orleans has that.

He said cheap neighborhoods. That eliminates San Diego and Seattle.

Most of the hipster capitals with the exception of Denver or the Twin Cities would fit the bill. I would say Seattle, Portland, or Austin.

I guess cheap is relative? I grew up in an expensive area, and both of my friends in North Park pay $900 a month for a one bedroom. To me, that's cheap! That area is great, liberal, artsy, and the restaurants are great, without being overpriced. I've found places in Seattle that are cheap as well! Plus I think the minimum wage there is pretty high.
