In Chicago, MLK Dr. was known as Grand Boulevard. It was called Grand Boulevard because of the large greystone and brownstone mansions that line the street. Originally inhabited by upper class Jews, affluent Blacks moved into the area around the turn of the century creating one of the main thoroughfares of the Black Metropolis or Bronzeville (Chicago's version of Harlem). Black notables such as Dr. Daniel Hale Williams (First person to perform open heart surgery), activist Ida B. Wells Barnett, boxer Joe Louis, and publisher Robert Sengstacke Abbott, and many of Chicago's Black upper middle and upper class families all resided on this street at one time. It was fondly nicknamed "The Valley" and "Boulevard DeNege" by Bronzeville residents. Eventhough most of these famlies have sinced moved alot of the homes have been restored and occupied by many of the Black professionals that still chose to reside in the area which is going through somewhat of a gentrification process now.

San Antonio's MLK Blvd is on the the citys east side, a few miles from the Riverwalk. It is in a seedy area. It is the site of the largest MLK parade in the nation.
In Madison, WI, Dr. MLK Blvd is literally only two blocks. It's right in downtown and is lined with government buildings. The street starts at the Hilton and ends at the capitol building. Definitely not even a questionable area, unless you're talking about politicians.
Is Minneapolis the last city in the country to not have a Martin Luther King Street? There is a King's Highway in SW Mpls., but it is a city boulevard at it was named after a local farmer. I have to love our stubbornness.
Particularly surprising, since it is one of the most liberal cities in the country!
we have a Martin Luther King Drive in Lakewood, NJ. It used to be all bad but they built some new houses in recent years so basically half is bad and half is good. The bad is the worst of the worst though.
In indianapolis, the martin luther king jr st. As its called of course has a portion of it that is located in a bad part of town, however at least some of the street is located in downtown indianapolis in a decent area. The thing that gets me though is that the entire street isnt named for mlk, the same street also is called michigan rd in some areas. I have noticed that with mlk streets and other streets named for black people, in most cases they have located these streets in poor black areas and many times the streets themselves are in poor shape. Surprisingly though many cities still dont have a street named for him...louisville, kentucky now has renamed i65 for him but prior to that the only street that beared his name wasnt even a street really it was one block downtown that lied in front of a federal building. However in winston salem, nc, martin l king blvd is a very clean and nicely put together street and also is the location of winston salem state university.
Martin Luther King Blvd In Albuquerque is a short stretch of road in downtown.
The area is so so, I once had a prostitue try getting in my truck on this road, she thought I was trying to pick her up.
