1. Detroit, because it's the ultimate underdog, and if you get past the "ick, it's Detroit" thing and get used to having some abandoned buildings within viewing distance, living in Midtown/Downtown is about the singular most transformative experience you can have in the U.S.
2. Philadelphia, because Reading Terminal Market is probably the single coolest place I've ever been. I could go there every day and never get bored.
3. Cincinnati, because I'm obsessed with Skyline Chili.
4. Houston, because that's where all of the chemical engineering jobs are.
5. San Francisco, because I have to pick one that people would expect me to, right? Actually, while San Francisco is a bit weird, I appreciate the uniqueness. Plus it didn't seem quite as chaotic as other large cities such as New York, Chicago, and possibly the DC corridor.
Smaller cities: Ft. Collins, Colorado; Ann Arbor if I could get over the University of Michigan thing; I thought that Lafayette, Indiana was surprisingly decent but I'm not sure if I could elevate it to a higher level yet.

Only scoring places I've had significant stays at -
1. Columbus, Ohio - I've spent the most time here, identify strongly with its culture and am proud of how much it's grown and progressed. I've only technically lived in Columbus for 1.5 years of my life, but I've almost always been in the metro area and proudly claim it.
2. Portland, Maine - Such an interesting and unusual place. Awesome food, art, culture, and is quite scenic. Beautiful city without having a big "skyline."
3. Cincinnati, Ohio - Has a ton of character. Awesome food and I love the sports atmosphere. Beautiful, has a waterfront, and the Kentucky part of the metro is fun too! Gorgeous views and fun to walk or drive through in many spots.
4. New York City, New York - 'Nuff said.
5. Chillicothe, Ohio - My birthplace and original home town. It's had a bit of a slump lately with crime rising and most of the development being vanilla strip malls... but it has nice areas and unique character. Developing downtown, capitalizing on being in a beautiful area and embracing its rich heritage will lead to better days ahead.
