What is the best smaller city/Large town in the mid south? Talking about Tennessee,Virginia,Kentucky,North Carolina.

Right now we are leaning heavily towards Roanoke,Va area but keeping options open.

Must have good job market with places hiring, great schools especially for special education.Everything else we can work on.

I feel that the Triad in North Carolina would be a good fit for you guys. Winston Salem and Greensboro are both very affordable with a great job market and Forsyth county has some of the best public schools in North Carolina. The Triangle and specifically Cary/Apex a would be a great option with one of the nations bet job markets and some of the best schools in the nation but I dont know if thats too big of a city for you guys.

So they have the wrong nomenclature... I don't see it as a big deal since they backed it up with the actual states in which they are looking.

I love Asheville, but from reading their forum, it doesn't have a great job market. More transplants than jobs, according to the posters. But it is fun, quirky little mountain city.

How about Huntsville, AL? Lots of government work to be had.

And no, northern Alabama is NOT the Deep South.

The unemployment figures look pretty good fo Asheville.

Unemployment rate: 3.7% (Dec 2014)

Guess it depends what kind of job one is looking for.

Maybe. The comments from the forum are generally about a lack of jobs and because there is so much demand, the jobs are much lower paying than equivalent work in other cities.

Maybe it's not true and they are just trying to scare people off. But that seems to be a common theme on the Western North Carolina forum.
