Santa Fe might work except for the "big acts" coming through. They get some and Albuquerque does, too, and Denver or Colorado Springs are not that far. Santa Fe is really big on the Arts but the sports scene is pretty subdued -- Albuquerque has a minor league soccer team (Sol) and Santa Fe has some leagues if you want to play. Albuquerque has the Isotopes minor league baseball team. Outdoor sports, like mountain biking or even skiing, are big. The weather is just about perfect for a four season location. There is a nice commuter train that connects Santa Fe to Albuquerque but it is only about an hour drive. You might feel a little isolated but that is part of the appeal.
