Does anyone have any opinions of the best places for musicians? I know Nashville, LA, Chicago, New York, and Austin are the obvious ones. I visited Austin a while back and quite liked it but I hear its becoming too saturated with musicians, leaving hardly any room to stand out. Does any one know of some lesser known music oriented cities, towns, etc. I'd love to visit some place over school break and check it out. Any suggestions are appreciated!!

This probably isn't the greatest suggestion, but I've heard Omaha has a reputation for it's own little flavor of music. Maybe give it a try sometime?

Musician is a pretty broad term, so I think it depends on the type of music or entertainment you are interested. The Department of Labor includes all the cities you have mentioned but you left out a key location: VIVA LAS VEGAS

a buddy of mine moved to San Fran to get into the music scene there. It seems to be fairly active, if you can afford to live there.

Watch American Idol Tuesday night. It will prove otherwise...jk.

Anyway, yes Omaha has a very active local music scene. Indie Rock in particular and the homegrown "Saddle Creek Records". Many local bands/artists have made it big as well.

Minneapolis has a huge music scene, especially if you like garage rock, punk rock, indy rock, rockabilly, jam bands, hip hop, alt-folk, pretty much everything. If there isn't a club or venue around the corner, then someone is having a show in their basement or living room. To be honest, I think that there is too much music going on in Minneapolis.

Not really that I can think of. I'm not sure why they chose to have Omaha as one of their 7 audition cities but from some previews I have seen it sounds like it will be pretty funny...at Omaha's expense.
