California and Phoenix will give you mild, not warm, weather in winter, but freedom from cold snaps.
Florida and South Texas will give you warm weather in winter, but the occasional cold snap will come through.
Stop thinking about nightlife, and start thinking about career. If you want a high paying professional career.... California and Texas, forget about Florida.
If you want a nice stable, secure gov't job with good benefits.... Texas or Florida. Forget about California.
The OP was right, SoCal is aight but the QOL is lacking...to much time sitting in traffic/smog, etc.
