Okay, here's the situation. Although I'm from MS, I have been living in New York City for six years. My mother took early retirement and receives $800 a month from that as her sole income. I think she gets food stamps, too. She is currently living in a trailer in the Jackson, MS area but the rent eats up almost every dime she gets. She's on the list for affordable housing in Brandon, MS but who knows when she'll get a place. Anyway, she claims that she's been looking for a place to live but that everywhere she looks is too expensive. She says she looked as far west as Dallas, in Memphis, in Mobile, etc. She doesn't have a car currently because she can't afford to buy one with her income. My brother is living with her right now and he has a motorcycle that he rides to work. He also brings in about ~$1,000 a month.

Anyway, I can't comprehend how she can't find a place to rent that is within her income level. My BFF lives in a two bedroom in Conway, AR that she pays $475/mo for. How come my mother can't find anything? I don't know what methods she's using but whatever it is, it isn't working.

I live 1,200 miles away and have for six years so I am seriously out of the loop. I'm sure she'll want to stay in the South. Where can she find cheap rent? My brother would probably move with her, he works in construction and he always manages to find work.
