Are they pretty similar cities or are they very big differences between the two?

If you feel you or your husband will be traveling a lot, go to Atlanta as their airport is far superior. Otherwise it's essentially a wash. St. Louis has some fantastic suburbs, no doubt, and in terms of offerings (outside of NFL/NBA teams, nightclubs, and African-American culture/entertainment) gives Atlanta a run for its money.
St. Louis is a top 10 metro for African American culture hands down. Definitely the largest black population in Middle America outside Chicago and Detroit. The rest I agree with. St. Louis has a lot of big city cultural offerings in a smaller, more manageable package. St. Louis has more traditional streetcar suburb and interesting inner ring suburbs. Atlanta has more modern suburbs, with new construction and bigger lots.

They are really different. Atlanta feels more modern, fresh, and vibrant. St. Louis feels more historic, traditional, and weathered. Just my opinion. If you like Baltimore, Pittsburgh, and Cincinnati, you will probably like St. Louis. If you like Charlotte, Austin, and Dallas, Atlanta would be your choice.

Yeah but Atlanta is quite literally the black Mecca of the US. No matter how great the scene is in StL, Atlanta just has us beat significantly.

Atlanta is one of few metros in the country that does have dangerous suburbs OP. I have never heard of St. Louis having those.

Not to mention East St. Louis...

Nmical1204, please disregard any and all comments by Happiness-is-close in regards to Atlanta. He is a well documented hater of the place, and will stop at nothing to discredit it.

Yes, I agree. I thought you were implying that St. Louis had little to no black scene, but yeah few cities match up to Atlanta in the category. For it's size though, St. Louis surely is not lacking in African American cultural offerings though. I say this as an African American.
