My husband and I are wanting to start a life somewhere new. He is a certified welder and I currently an a vet tech. We are wanting to move somewhere close to the mountains. We love Hiking, fishing, kayaking, riding horses, etc. So basically a safe town, lots of outdoorsy things to do, and affordability are crucial. I'm open to any cities in west USA. I was thinking somewhere in Colorado/Wyoming/Montana, but we're open for anything!

Look into mariposa and Oakhurst, CA.
Both about an hour from Yosemite valley

Good mountain/lake access with less extreme weather than the Rockies

If you don't mind grey and rainy weather for a good bit of the year the PNW is pretty fantastic.

Affordability would rule out Portland and Seattle area immediately.

Affordable housing is equal to what? Size of town preferred? Access to urban activities is important or not? How far are you willing to drive for medical services? What is your tolerance of intense sun and brown landscapes? Does your husband have any certifications? Vet tech for small animals or large, any farrier experience?

Of course but there are other towns and cities that are more affordable in the region.

Less then $850 a month for an apatment.
Would like to be an hour from Denver. We mainly do outdoorsy activities, but would like to be able.ro drive to Denver for fun or medical services.
Love the sun. Want to be in the mountains.
He's a certified welder and I work with small animals, wildlife, and reptiles.

Sounds doable, but that winter drive sounds hellish.
If you're mostly interested in summer activities, it should be worth it tho.
Have you looked into Colo springs yet? Big city and cheaper than Denver. Happy hunting

$850/mo in the mountains of Colorado, especially within 1 hour of Denver is increasingly impossible.
