The term "All-American" has many implications. Some states such as Illinois, Ohio, Kansas for various subjective reasons can be argued to showcase more "All-American" qualities than others. But are there certain states that seem "un-American" compared to other states? And for what reasons?

Keeping in mind, Yes, America is built on differences & diversity. Racial-ethnic dimensions are part of the American fabric.

I'd probably say Hawaii, because a lot of people there want to secede from the union.

I dont' think there is any other state where a sizable part of the population wants to leave the USA. That is pretty un-American in my book.

Thanks for your thought. but by 'un-American' it is not necessarily 'anti-American'

I think Hawaii is the most atypical American state. More paradise than apple pie.

I agree with Hawaii.

I'll also say New Mexico. The Native influences give it a very unique and different vibe.

Hawaii - Asian majority, separated from the rest of the U.S.

How do you define the qualities of being "American"?

The definition of being "American" has been co-opted and used as a hammer by politicos and idealistic demogogues for decades now. It has practically lost all meaning.
