They were also built from logs, stone, and milled lumber.

Older structures were made from adobe brick but standard 2x wood frame construction has really replaced that for the most part since WWII.

You can find concrete block houses in TN but they tend to be owner built structures, at least the ones I am familiar with. They are cool in the summer but also cool in the winter. The one I own now has furring strips with a little foam insulation beneath the paneling/sheetrock.

There is/was a company out of Ringgold GA that sells a block called autoclaved aerated concrete. That would be a good place to look.
