Long Beach Township on Long Beach Island, NJ, has a Hand's (department) Store. There are about 20,000 year-round residents.

It is now sadly permanently closed.

The Lord & Taylor in Westfield, NJ is also closed, but that was a standalone right by downtown.

Are we talking small independent cities not attached to a major city?

People are mentioning Morristown, Greenwich, Bala Cynwyd, etc. Those are all towns in major metro areas.

I am thinking Scranton, Binghamton, Portland (ME), Charleston, etc.

Sadly the department store days are dwindling . Pittsburgh (mid-sized city) even had a nice Saks until a few years ago.

Yes, for this thread, as including independent cities in a major metro may lessen the interest of the thread.

So far, it appears that a few cities come to mind.

Lawrence, KS has a population of about 97,000. There is a small department store located in its downtown area called Weaver's. Here is its website: https://weaverslawrence.com/.

Lol…..if that’s the case, Rosemont, IL has a population of just 4,255 people and it has a large mall with multiple department stores (Fashion Outlets of Chicago).

For standalone cities, I believe Sheboygan, WI (pop 42k) had a Boston Store downtown until a few years ago.

Actually, that Rosemont example wouldn’t fit, as that is a mall. When I said stand alone, I meant an old school, individual department store building or storefront.

I also excluded independent cities of major metros later.

On a side note, Binghamton also has a stand alone Dick’s Sporting Goods Store, which is the original location: https://goo.gl/maps/TBVAKzX6romPm89b6

Kemmerer, WY has the home store of JC Penney, at least for now, and the JC Penney Home/Museum (Pop: 2,747) TBH, I think this WINS, if that is possible... you know a place is small and off the beaten track when the most recent Google Streetview for the city is from 2009.
