I would say that too but a lot of people from up north looking for a liberal town still find places like Asheville too conservative or they don’t like the overwhelmingly conservative culture of everything around thier liberal island. There are multiple threads out there that demonstrate this problem for those looking for a “warm liberal city in the south” or something similar. Bottom line is North Carolina is still a conservative southern state. The same goes for Tennessee, Georgia or South Carolina if one suggest places like Nashville, Atlanta or Greenville.
A liberal seeking warm weather would likely be happiest on the West Coast or possibly parts of Florida. High COL is often the price of living in a liberal community. Really the taxes necessary to pay for liberal programs and services automatically make those areas more expensive and many liberals also want to congregate in the same areas driving up housing cost. If you want warm, hip and liberal then you likely have to pay for it.
Asheville - conservative? you obviously don't live there. My choice would be Austin or Asheville. Very different- Austin is much larger and warmer. Asheville is much prettier (with mountains surrounding it).
I don't see conservatives falling over each other to move to San Francisco, or even Austin. But to answer the question, I agree that many cities across the South and Southwest would fit the bill. Plenty of areas of Phoenix and Tempe that would be pretty good and cheaper than Scottsdale.
Well that's because most people either can't afford San Francisco (I personally think it's an extremely overrated area), or would rather live comfortably in a place where if they share their political views with someone they aren't getting rioted.

Personally, the longer I stay in a super liberal place (like San Francisco where I used to live), the more conservative I become. And the longer I stay in a super conservative place like West Texas, the more liberal I become. OP, not sure if you share this mentality but I tend to get burnt out with extended exposure to any sort of extreme politics (whether left or right) and end up adopting the opposite side of the spectrum as an act of rebellion.

I'm still searching for the last bastion of non-political people. And who knows, we might hate each other too!

Me too. The extremes at both ends drive me nuts, right more than left though. I am generally a liberal, but in a classical sense really.
