Even as a liberal it is great not paying super high taxes and getting nothing in return for your investment. I don't mind helping the poor out but let me do that with my own charities and not with higher taxes.
Exactly. We lived in Los Angeles for a few years. Paid some of highest taxes in the nation. Got nothing out of it.
We hightailed it back to TN and never looked back.
Those states are obviously not empty and void of people. And NY has one of the highest populations. So again, taxes aren't stopping people from living in those states and even thriving. Taxes are no real "burden" to those who've got what it takes.

You should show that last sentence to the conservatives in Mississippi and Alabama and all those other wonderful bottom tier states and see how they react.
And yet there are people who live in those states, love them, and wouldn't move anywhere else. One person's aching bellyache is another's yawn. Not everyone is obsessed and foaming at the mouth over taxes.
Persons in those states could easily throw out their own lists of states most burdened with ________. No state exists in perfection. I'm glad and thankful we have choices, unlike other countries. Appreciate the US or go elsewhere.
Lol no one said that people are fleeing these states and these states are horrible to live in,
But overall the high tax states have low or no population growth .
I notice on city data quickly growing populations is viewed as a great thing whereas in real life many people do not like sudden fast growth in their cities. I tend to compare what city data to what I see on FB a lot.
As a New Yorker I’m totally fine with the city shedding 1 million out of its 8.5 million residents!

Connecticut, being the wealthiest state, pays the most dollar amount per capita.
