I'm dying in the Washington DC (Northern Virginia) area right now, the mosquitoes are so awful. I'm being bitten all day long by the asian tiger mosquitoes. I want to move. Which state/city has the fewest mosquitos?
I lived in LA for several years and was shocked when I moved back east by how much mosquitoes are affecting my summer/early fall. Is there anywhere besides dry, desert climates that have a limited mosquito problem?
There are not many mosquitos in parts of Western WA. They are here, but few. Out at the coast (parts of it), there are swarms but they die down when the wind is blowing.
I live in Portland where it is damp most of the year, and I have not seen one mosquito since I have been here. Even when I went camping there were no mosquitoes.
I went to Alaska last summer and could not believe how many mosquitoes there where. And they were gigantic!
I keep hearing about the mosquitoes in Alaska, which surprises me because it is so cool (even in summer it doesn't get that hot, right?). I'm trying to pinpoint the reasons for the variations in mosquito levels - water, heat, bushes/trees....but I don't understand why Alaska has a problem when areas in the Pacific NW (like Portland don't).
So far, my options seem to be the West Coast and the desert Southwest. Anyone have thoughts on Denver or the rocky mountain areas? Again, any thoughts on the midwest (I think they may be bad in the midwest, but nearly as bad as in Virginia)?
