*Most* African Americans look like some type of African. But most Africans don’t look like African Americans.
Despite what Americans think most Africans aren’t jet black with extremely ‘African’ features. Many Africans them do look exactly like African Americans particularly Igbo Nigerians and some Angolans.
Exceptions for light skinned African Americans
Many Africans don't look like other Africans. For example, someone from Nigeria will look different than someone from Ethiopia (many Ethiopians, Eritreans and Somalians have some sort of Semitic admixture, as they tend to have sharper features, plus their languages - albeit rather distantly - are related to Hebrew and Arabic) . Someone from northern Sudan will look different than someone from South Sudan (I want to say that South Sudanese might be on average the most darkly-complected population on the planet - almost a "purplish" tinge to their complexion)
Late to this thread but, historically, Irish-German was the most common Euro-American ancestry combination aside from combos within British Isles ancestry.

I don't totally agree with this... What's most people have to understand is the American black person has been in the United States for over 400 years just as long as whites, have evolved and to be honest has more in kin with American whites than African Native blacks. Alot of heritage and blood is shared between American whites and blacks and many are family members due to slavery believe it or not.. Do your ancestry DNA and you will see.. American whites and Blacks are a mixed bag of some what Mutts from a bunch of European and African countries mainly, while true African native people or even Europeans from their particular country tends to be more concentrated , not saying their are some mixtures in their countries as well.. To be honest I never understood the term African American, it brings about a lot of confusion, black American I can see, just like white Americans.. An American white and black person would be tracing their blood line to a bunch of European and African countries, not to mention others...
Black American means descendants of slaves to the US south, they are the vast majority of blacks in America and there is no other name for them. Then you got Jamaican, Haitian, Nigerian etc.
The term African-American was invented to describe descendants of the slaves in the US. It is surprising how many people think it just means "black" or from Africa.
So many Americans are unaware of this fact that people mock Americans when they go to other countries and refer to Black people from those countries as "African-Americans".
