First let me say I'm sorry if this shows up twice, lost power, when it come back couldn't find my thread.
Looking for small cities/towns, maybe 8-10,000 with larger city relatively close by (10-15 miles) an airport less than an hour would be nice. We are interested in North/South Carolina, Tennessee, perhaps Georgia or Virginia, but are open to other areas in the eastern part of US. Looking for low cost of living (who isn't), everyday shopping like grocery, pharmacy, hardware store, some medical, should be in the community. The other shopping, a mall, hopefully a Sam's club, Pet Smart, fabric shop would usually be available in a larger city, less humidity & severe weather and as little snow as possible, snow, in my opinion is beautiful and necessary on Christmas eve. Schools are not a concern as we have no children and are half retired.

Presently living in Florida 15 years, intended to retire here, but that's not going to be possible. Live in a city that was 22,000 and is now 80,000+ still have to drive 35-40 minutes each way for all but basic needs. Traffic is horrendous, cost of living has skyrocketed, crime has gone way up, something like 28% jump last year, humidity is relentless (enjoy doing my own yard work, walking, etc) heat/humidity past few years makes that extremely hard, also tired of worrying about hurricanes, tornados, wildfires, etc. I realize there is no 100% perfect place but hopefully there is something better. Oddly enough the place we moved to Florida from has most of our requirements except the snow factor (sometimes 18" at a time and still there in April) and the high cost of everything, our main reason for relocation to begin with. Thanks for your suggestions.

Murphy, NC is the first thing that comes to mind...but I'm sure there's others.

Danville, Frankfort, or Shelbyville Kentucky are all nice mid sized towns near larger cities.

Many towns in TN & the Carolina's are growing as fast as Florida, the places I mentioned have moderate but not out of control growth and still retain their small town character.

I agree with Census. Danville and Shelbyville are the prettiest of the three in my opinion though.

I actually like Frankfort. It's defiantly the grittier of the 3, being a true river town. it reminds me a bunch of Covington or Newport.
