Alabama- Birmingham
California - Carmel
Connecticut - New Haven
Delaware - Lewes
Florida - St Augustine
Georgia - Athens
Hawaii - Hilo
Illinois - Chicago
Iowa - Lake View
Kentucky - Covington
Maryland - Havre-de-Grace
Massachusetts - Williamstown
New Jersey - Cape May
North Carolina - Asheville
Ohio - Cincinnati
Oregon - Astoria
Pennsylvania - Pittsburgh
South Carolina - Charleston
Tennessee - Knoxville
Texas - San Antonio
Vermont - Burlington
Virginia - Roanoke

There are a lot of states I have been to but don't have an opinion or can't decide. Lake View, Iowa get points for being an ancestral home and wouldn't merit a mention otherwise. The other two ancestral homes on the list are Chicago and New Haven which can be on their own merit.

California: South Lake Tahoe (The trees, the lake, the hiking!)
Nevada: Las Vegas ( I enjoy eating in Las Vegas, so many good places to Chow down)
Utah: Vernal ( Cute little town that has some of the best apple fritters I've ever tasted at a donut shop there)
Montana: Helena ( Cute town, considered moving here at one time)
Idaho: Pocatello ( small town, surrounded by smaller hills/mountains, friendly people)
South Dakota: Custer ( Small town set near a state park, very quaint)
Wyoming: Star Valley (Not a single town, but the entire area that is surrounded by three national Forests and the kindest people I have ever met.)

I've driven through Oregon and Washington state, but never stopped long enough at any town to form an opinion.
