Californians are dreamers, thank God.

I'll ignore the metro part because a true road warrior lives outside of metro.

Longest daily distance I've seen in the US - Carlsbad, CA to DTLA
round trip distance - 170 mile
frequency - 5 days a week (early hours)
duration of super commuting - temporarily (he said) but I've seen him doing it for 2+ years
mode of transport - driving
door to door time consumption - mostly 2 hrs each way but 3 or more on a bad day (he said)
cost - a lot (he said)
reason - family

Longest daily distance I've seen in the world - Nagoya to Tokyo Chiyoda-ku
round trip distance - 700km (435 mile)
frequency - 6 days a week on average (regular hours)
duration of super commuting - 10+ years
mode of transport - train
door to door time consumption - slightly under 2 hrs each way
cost - over $5k/mo (only $1k/mo covered by company)
reason - family

Longest bi-weekly distance I've seen in the world - NRT to GRU
cost - $0 (covered by company)
reason - he had given only two other options, a) live in Brazil, b) quit the job. he chose to commute.

Longest distance I've read
I've read about many air commuters here and there. Most of them were weekly air commuters (often commute internationally) which is not very special, but there were some doing it daily.

The Hudson Valley to Suffolk County (Long Island) would be a brutal 2.5 hour commute each way. Same with Toms River, NJ to Suffolk County. Two examples of horrid commutes in the NYC Metro area.

I've seen Reddit threads about people doing Seattle to Bellingham. Not even in our CSA.

Longest that anyone I personally know here has done was 1.5 hours, but that was only from the U District to West Seattle, she doesn't have a car so she had to take two buses.

Charleston area has some interesting commutes. I know of a couple people who commute from Georgetown to downtown Charleston. That is over an hour one way.

Moncks Corner to downtown is not very popular, but that is 40-45 minutes and I know several people who do that.

A lot of the people who live in Summerville work in North Charleston, which is a much shorter commute than what was the standard, folks going to downtown Charleston. Five years ago, that was the main commute in the area. One accident on I-26 at the wrong time in the morning could foul up the entire day for thousands of people.

Now with the metro area spreading out, and people working in more varied areas around town, you don’t see that as much of an issue anymore.

Boeing has become such a huge part of the economy (7,000 jobs pre-pandemic), and all of its suppliers have changed the entire commuting pattern.

A pretty prominent professor at SUNY Binghamton commutes from Syracuse, Liverpool area, everyday. That's insane. Especially in winter's...

Austin is gaining the well-deserved reputation of the worst traffic in the US. and it's not even a big city.

I know a few Kentuckians that commute to Nashville:

Bowling Green, KY to Nashville, TN
Hopkinsville, KY to Nashville, TN
Cadiz, KY to Nashville, TN

Nashville just like Austin, TX is becoming known for being that mid-sized city that has horrible traffic because there isn't a viable public transportation system. Those commutes are 60-90 miles one way so if someone has a traffic accident anywhere on I-24 or I-65 you will be very late to work even if you leave early.

I commute about 60 miles one way but it is all rural Kentucky and you only run into 4 stoplights the entire trip so it is mostly a relaxing commute. I would much rather do that 60 miles than do 30 miles from Williamson or Wilson County TN into Downtown Nashville. I would bet on many days my 60 mile commute in rural Kentucky would be quicker than said metro commute.
