What is your favorite mountain town and why?
Ideally a mountain town would offer both winter time sports like Skiing,Snowboarding but its not a hard and fast requirement. In summer, a great mountain town should have a lake or two, places to fish and trails to mountain bike. For my overall favorite , its Mammoth Lakes,Ca followed by Jackson Hole, WY for an out of state pick.
Mammoth

You stole mine. But to be fair, there are a lot of neat little mountain towns up and down the Eastern Sierra Nevada.

For an out of state pick, I have to go with Estes Park, Colorado.

It's in the foothills of the Alleghenys.

On that note, why not Pittsburgh? Not everyone likes ski resorts and tourists.

I like college towns like Houghton, Michigan, Athens, Ohio, and UTEP's section of El Paso.

Durango, CO and Breckenridge, CO. I've heard fantastic things about Steamboat Springs, but have sadly never made it up there.
