First you say Drover's comment was "rude and uncalled for", then you go on to state that the 'net "doesnt always bring out the brightest crayons in the box". How, uh, hypocritical of you.

Back on subject here... I think there are many midwestern cities that have great economies, but Chicago seems to be leading the charge, and by a long gap too. The midwestern metros are on the rise again, even Detroit is being spurred ever-so-slowly. Give it time.

Whaddya mean, Who cares? If no one cared about this sort of stuff, we wouldn't have city-data forums!

Des Moines and Omaha both have good economies, as does Madison.

For smaller metro areas, I'll throw a vote in for Rochester, MN with the Mayo Clinic, 3M and I believe a couple other companies out of there.
Rochester is doing really well, The Mayo Clinic has over 25,000 employees in the area and 3m employs 3,000-4,000 people. Rochester is growing fast and annexing new neighborhoods. It is now Minnesota's third largest city jumping past Duluth and Bloomington.

MN is one of those states with one large metro and all of the other mid-sized areas get overlooked. (Such as Rochester - which is a very pretty town btw) Could be wrong but that's just how MN seems to me.

You are right on-the Minneapolis/St. Paul Metro refers to the rest of the state as"out-state" areas. Hello?

It absorbs economically everything into its sphere and is sprawling like mad. It makes it difficult for other areas of the state to compete economically. Brain Drain. I imagine other states face the same issues.

Just making a point that people on here tend to just say things without reason. So it wasn't really hypocritical, pointing out the people that you find on the net aren't always that considerate. Just like that time you went around on all the southern boards talking about some random snake killings, when there are plenty of problems in your own area you could have been talking about, but never did. Anyways, it was rude and uncalled for, he was being that way, i dont know why you are defending him for being that way. Btw I don't think its right to say Chicago is leading the charge for mid-sized midwestern cities, because it is not mid sized.

Well some would consider Rochester a smaller metro rather than mid-sized, so maybe that's why you forgot.

Wow this thread is getting pretty war like and off topic. Ok people from Chicago, stop attacking other people and saying where their cities belong. Everyone else, stop insulting the Chicagoans. If these you keep attacking each other I will request this thread closed.
