So, I'm unclear as to whether the OP is soliciting help finding a vacation destination or a vacation home. Assuming the former, I infer the following things are desired:
Peace and quiet
A place to hike and enjoy nature
A mild climate
An oceanfront location
May I suggest The Greyfield Inn on Cumberland Island, GA. My family had some amazing gatherings there; there's no place quite like it.
I doubt this is going to happen but my suggestion is the lakes in upstate SC. Very clear water and man made beaches with mountains in the backdrop.
There is plenty of hiking and abundant waterfalls. Good thing you like peace and quiet because that's what you will find but there are day trips to Highlands, Brevard and of course Greenville. Or Asheville.
Greenville has southwest airlines for inexpensive flights. But if these are the people who vacation in Maui they won't care about the cost.
Why not save the money and rent a nice place a couple times a year. Maine sounds like the best option otherwise. The heat lovers can suck it up.
My family on the east coast are not wild about the Maine idea either. I just did a poll. So sadly that is out as east, west and center don't want to go there.
It's definitely a purchase for the next generation. It's just not the same to rent a place.
Honestly, in your situation, with people that spread out, I'd start thinking about Costa Rica or Belize. You could get an awesome place in the mountains and or beach, and it's kind of oddly centrally located for everyone. (Admittedly, the non-flyer may have to get a boat).
It sounds like you’ll never agree as everyone’s wants are different, not to mention the relative that won’t fly. Is everyone buying into this house equally? Personally I’d get a place I’d want and use the most with my family and do a time share with the rest of the family so you could switch it up. There’s a lot of reasonable ones on the secondary market. Good luck trying to please everyone, it won’t happen
