You should. You don't sound much enthralled, but I can attest that the woods in the northern Appalachians are a beauty to behold. Extremely serene. Massive ancient rock formations and even some large waterfalls.
I am, at least, excited by the fact that the people I have met when up there seem to be less judgmental. Conversations run at a much different pace too.
If there’s one thing I actually am excited about, it’s having Watkins Glen raceway pretty close by.

It's so pretty up there!!
It's not practical for my line of work but it's gorgeous. Especially in Fall.
Could've sworn I read you were headed back to Texas. You excited for fall?
To move? No. My partner just went down to Fort Hood for three weeks, though I don't remember posting about it. I haven't posted much recently as I've been really busy. I'd like to make a trip to visit friends in Texas, which may also be what you read, but dunno when I'll have the time for that. And yea, very excited for fall. Wanna go mushroom hunting this fall!
You know what I don't get? I have lived in the south most of my life (Georgia, Virginia, Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina - and I've probably left a state or two out) and I do not recall ANYONE ANYTIME ANYWHERE asking me what church I go to, unless it was pertinent to the conversation (as in, talking about churches or religion or whatever).
I'm not saying you should live in the south - clearly you shouldn't and that's fine because we have a huge, amazing country which basically offers something for everyone, so my advice is always "Live where you love it." I just hear this sort of thing all the time and had to respond because you'd think that if this was so common, in 50 years I'd have experienced it myself. It's really just weird.
I don't understand where "in the South" you people have lived. I was raised in the South and like the OP want OUT of this region. I 100% get where she is coming from. As far as never being asked "what church do you go to?"...that is very hard for me to believe. It is baked in here. I literally was just asked that question 2 nights ago at work. I travel to different towns to work and as I sat down for my break this co-worker looks at me, asked me where I live, then the very next question out of her mouth was "Where do you attend church?" My answer? "I don't." Then she proceeded to tell me I should attend The Church Of God church on blah blah road because the preacher is so wonderful blah, blah. Everything here is based around religion. Always has been. I just ignore it but it gets old for those of us that are not religious.

I mean, I lived in Dallas for 7 years and Houston for four and have never been asked it either.
