From the small town perspective, Stillwater, OK has the strip.

Plymouth is a bit of a stretch for Boston. I know it's In the MSA but it's a bit far out.

To someone in Utah, though, Plymouth, Boston, Bunker Hill, Lexington, Concord, Salem, and maybe Lowell are all right next to each other.

The rest of Massachusetts doesn’t exist.

Primarily for the textile mill strike, I would imagine.

And, I haven't heard of any of those in Nashville...hardly famous. People are throwing these out there, to see if they stick, and failing miserably, as far as I can tell.

The only famous areas in Nashville are Broadway and perhaps Music Row. And even then, that's a stretch.

Very few places are truly famous. Not if "fame" means something like the average college grad across the country knows about it or even connects the name to a city.

Most of what I've heard about most of these places is on CD and similar boards.

philly has west philadelphia (born and raised ...) and south-philly but those have philly in the title so of course theyre recognizable.

what other places ?
Not only are NYC and L.A. obvious ones, they are the only ones, with the Las Vegas strip being the only other possible one. Disney is a private park, so not sure we can include Florida.

Things like the Loop in Chicago, center city in Philly, etc. yes well known but not famous.

Things like Hollywood and Wall Street are famous enough that two random people at a bus station in Uzbekistan who have never been to the USA might strike up conversation about them.

A quick brainstorm of the truly famous:

Wall Street
Times Square / Broadway

Hollywood
Rodeo Drive

Tenderloin
Haight Ashbury

The Loop

South Beach

The French Quarter

The Las Vegas Strip

PS, I'm not paying attention to municipal boundaries obviously.

The Loop is not famous? News to me.
