We know Boise and Austin have been discovered. I hear Nashville and the Carolinas also have new people moving in regularly. What's your guess on which cities will be the next? I think Tulsa, OK and parts of AL have potential.

Preemptive edit: let's not let this post (eventually) devolve into politics

Greensboro NC
Indianapolis IN
Buffalo or Rochester NY

One of those three choices I'd put money on

It's been said in this thread. I don't want it to be discovered... It is sort of my back up plan if I ever move away from Texas.

I discovered Indianapolis once, and it sucked. I don't see it exploding in popularity, other than people fleeing Chicago for lower taxes and (slightly) warmer weather. It's a very generic/suburban city, the urban neighborhoods that do exist are pretty lackluster, and everyone there seemed to be rather glum...not a lot of civic pride.

However, I 100% agree with Buffalo - great infrastructure and architecture. I'd also add Cincinnati & Bozeman to the list, at different ends of the size spectrum.

Sorry, I don't mean this thread to out any secrets! I understand a lot of these places will be hidden gems and will be ruined if people do move to those locations.

Bozeman is too remote to become the next Bend, although it will likely continue to draw in people from the Mountain West.

Yakima, WA could be a candidate. It does have a local perception as being dangerous, dirty, and poor. But it's also affordable (avg. rent for 1BR $745) despite only being 2 hours from Seattle and 3 from Portland, and it's close-ish to recreation sites in the Cascades. The downtown sucks for a city of its size, and would need a lot of infill, but developers could expand in the walkable, underutilized area north of downtown.
