Baltimore is generally East, West, and South Baltimore. The local news gets more specific: NE, SW, NW..etc., but the locals stick to the main 3 sections.
We'll say "Eastside," or "Westside," but NOBODY from Baltimore says "South Side." It's "South Baltimore"

The big split in Cincinnati is the Eastside vs. Westside, with the split typically considered to be I-75. The Eastside is viewed as being white collar and generally more affluent and cosmopolitan. You find a lot of quaint business districts and upscale shopping all over the place. The Westside is blue collar and conservative, whilst also being extremely German and Catholic. It is primarily made up of a large number of strip malls and post WW2 subdivisions.

Our city is on a long plateau between two larger cities, with large lake on one side, a river valley on the other. The main thoroughfare is running north/south.

Hattiesburg have a North/South theme to some degree. There's an eastside but if anyone look at the map it seems North & South. Southern Miss campus takes up a large chunk of the Northside & Southside is the largest section with nice middle-class areas to hoods.

For decades, St. Louis city has had the embarrassing “Delmar divide”, which splits the city into north and south sides. North of Delmar, the city is predominantly occupied by poor, Black residents, and there are few major businesses. South of Delmar is quite different. The contrast is most noticeable in the areas between Union Blvd and Vandeventer. While north of Delmar you find numerous board-ups and empty lots, south of Delmar is full of mansions and private streets. The area is mostly white and often affluent. Large employers such as Barnes Jewish Hospital and the Cortex District are located south of Delmar. Note: recently there have been solid plans and proposals to invest north of Delmar. Hopefully this will be the start of some much-needed changes in St. Louis.

Syracuse is more East/West with I-81 serving as a line. There is crossover in terms of income and demographics, but the East is generally more affluent than West. It is more apparent within the city, but still with crossover.

Within the city, South Side is mostly black until you get to outer neighborhoods to the SW and the (South) Valley neighborhood where it is mostly white(outer areas also has substantial black middle class). Some Native Americans in the Valley as well.

North Side was very German first then Italian(still quite a few in outer neighborhoods), but the inner portion is very culturally diverse due to refugees/immigrants(many from S/SE Asia, Sudanese, Somalians, etc.). Some Polish more NE into the Eastwood neighborhood, which still has a pretty big Italian population, but is becoming more diverse as well.

West Side in its inner portion is a mix(inc. Native Americans, poor/working class whites and a pretty big black population), but has a high Hispanic(mainly PR) population. Outer neighborhoods are more Irish(Tipperary Hill and more working class West End). Some Ukrainian and Polish residents in there as well.

East Side historically known for its Jewish community and more WASPish, but has also had a long time black population in its northern portion(ranges from lower income to solidly middle class further out in between I-690/East Genesee Street), with an increasing Hispanic(Dominican) population in parts. Has a mix around Syracuse University, but mostly white except for parts closer to I-81 south of Oakwood Cemetery/west of South Campus that have higher black and Asian(mainly Chinese & Indian, but other nationalities off campus students/residents) populations.

Suburban areas are more even between Western and Eastern suburbs, but the Eastern suburbs are generally more affluent. There are Northern suburbs and are generally solidly middle class. Eastern and Northern suburbs are historically have more culturally diverse pockets than the Western suburbs(but changing).

South has one suburb that is mostly working/middle class mostly white, but with substantial black and Native American populations(Nedrow). It also has the Onondaga Nation(reservation) and largely white rural towns.

I’ve been to Kansas City, MO several times and, like St. Louis, it is separated into north and south sides. However, the reason is due to the Missouri River, which divides the city roughly in half. Locals call the less-dense northern portion, which includes KCI Airport, “The Northland”. Not to be confused with North Kansas City, which is a totally separate municipality. The portion of KC south of the river includes downtown, midtown, the east side, and south side, and is where the majority of residents live. But with KCMO, the most noticeable divide isn’t within the city; it’s the two Kansas Cities (MO and KS), or more generally, the state divide. Competition between the two sides of the metro area harkens back to Civil War days, when MO was a slave state and KS was a free state. But that is a discussion for another thread.

The funny part about Cincinnati's split is that there are massive sections of the city/Hamilton County that don't identify with either of these distinctions - it's mostly confined to a handful of city neighborhoods/ suburbs.

My best understanding of what constituted the "true" Westside was everything south of I-74 and west of I-75.

I always thought of the Eastside as everything within the 275 loop that was east of I-71.

Toledo, OH, has five distinct directional areas of town.

Downtown/Central Toledo refers to the downtown area and the neighborhoods immediately west of downtown going toward the University of Toledo. This area is majority black and contains the greatest concentration of crime/poverty.

North Toledo is the area that is north/northeast of downtown bounded by Cherry Street, I-75, and the Maumee River.
The areas closest to downtown are high crime and include a diverse mix of white, black and hispanic residents. The neighborhood to the furthest north, Point Place, by the Michigan border is quite nice however.

West Toledo is the second largest geographic area of town with large parts being lower middle class/middle class and is mostly white with small hispanic and black minorities. There are some rougher areas that border Central Toledo.

South Toledo is the largest part of town and is probably the most socio-economically diverse (along with being fairly racially mixed as well). The areas close to Central Toledo are fairly rough while the areas further out are lower middle class/middle class and the Beverly neighborhood along the Maumee River is arguably the wealthiest in the city.

East Toledo
is the only part of town east of the Maumee River and is the most uniformly working class. It has a white majority but a sizable black/hispanic population.
