wow, great post kt13 thanks to all you others, too! and no, i think you missunderstood, kt13, ive never been to NYC also, how do you think NYC and SF would rank among the cities you listed?

I have actually been to L.A... Well, actually, the only place we visited was Disneyland :P it was incredible hot there.. Maybe because we stayed there in late June/early July!!

I know for sure that I will be going to NYC sometime.. Then, probably Chicago and New Orleans!! Las Vegas also seems like alot of fun, but Id consider it a one-timer!

Since you've been to LA...the 3 cities I definately recommend you don't miss are NYC, San Francisco, and Chicago.

All three are world class cities and have their own distinct flavor. You'll never get bored in any of them.

You cannot swim in the beaches in Northern CA, the water is always too cold. It's usually windy and foggy anyways. And the rip currents will suck you out and you'll drown. Not to mention great whites sharks that are common.

The CA beaches with tons of people swimming are in Southern CA.

ooh!! well, san francisco still had palms, so i still got that special summer, warm-place feel! i loved walking around downtown.. i remember going into a giant mall, with endless floors!! amazing. not to mention fishermans warf!!
We also visited a family, who lived just on the other side of the Golden Gate, and i recall walking on a path that led down to the shore.. where there was a bench. amazing view!!
Santa Barbara had an awesome beach (though the water was freezing), but i felt that it was kind of a boring city.. i know it could have been tolerable if i had school and friends etc i could hang out with in the afternoons..

NYC is definitely the place to visit! It's the number one truly urban city in US and it's one of the major tourist destination around the world. It's very different from every other city in the US.

I can't give you the same 'blurb' about NYC as I was able to provide about places I am a lot more familiar with. I've been to NYC a few times as a tourist and to visit friends and you definitely need to do all the touristy things like the Times Square and Brodway shows (we used to get tickets through the discount ticket counter right in the middle of Time Square). I also recommend walking across the Brooklyn Bridge and visiting Staten Island and walking in and around the Central Park (bring comfy shoes ). Otherwise, because of my friends, we happened to hang out mostly in the Upper West Side or the East Village areas. NYC Manhattan has so many neighborhoods and it's so dense you should be able to find everything you need regardless where you'd stay. Just make sure you don't bring(rent) a car.

Default San Antonio

Depends what you're looking for.

San Antonio's History is second to none. I took a tour there with a company named San Antonio Walks. I was amazed by the stuff that happened in SA. It relates to alot more than Texas history too!

The downtown is as beautiful as anywhere I've been in the world. It is not like anywhere else in the US on several levels.

I'd give it to New Orleans and San Antonio. If your looking for history and something different than other cities. These two are the places to go!
