So here we are with another drought in the West. Yet the population of those states keeps growing. Don’t they care about where their water comes from?
The West is really beautiful. The weather is good in some western states. Some people moved decades ago before water and fires were such a big concern.
Not sure they'll ever really run out of water completely. I sometimes ponder the possibility of living out there somewhere, but the water thing concerns me quite a bit actually. Still just too iffy.
Nice for a visit though.
Why are there people moving to the vulnerable coastal regions? There are hurricanes and storm surges and rising sea levels. New Orleans is below sea level. Why do people live in the midwest? There are tornadoes and earthquakes and miserable weather. Some parts of "the west" are worse (drier) than others and it fluctuates somewhat, year to year. The southwest is a desert, you know, and people have been living in the desert for thousands of years. Our rainfall is influenced somewhat by the Pacific El Nino/La Nina cycle. We just came out of a La Nina period which is dry for us in NM and entered a transition. We get more rain during El Nino...but the pattern might be the opposite for other regions of the west. We will enter our monsoon season in July through August. There will be rain several times a week...but it is still a beautiful desert.
