If money were no object I'd pick (in the US) NYC or Boston. Outside the US I'd pick London, Toronto, Edinburgh, or Berlin (I've not been to that many cities outside the US though)
I would go with either Annapolis, MD, where I live now, or San Diego. Other good choices are Austin TX and Charlotte NC. I'm not a big fan of the Pac NW, the Northeast, or the Midwest. Warm weather & beaches!!!

I wasn't thinking outside of the US, and there are lots of great cities "abroad"... I'd personally love Vancouver (BC), London, Rome or Amsterdam.
It's a toss up between San Francisco, New York City, and SoCal.
Oh, by the way, I am single, but these places are all so expensive for a nurse's salary.

Pretty much the same here. but add outside Us, Rome or Venice.
what city or area would you pick to live near, that has culture, people and social things to do, and why?.
sunny.
I've traveled to cities all over the USA & Canada and my favorites are Seattle, Toronto & #1 NYC. Where to live depends on your income, interests and do you like laid back or fast paced?
NYC has the most happening, it's just like they say....the city that never sleeps. There is so much culture and diversity that you can find something different to do & see seven days a week, 365 days a year. Plus, within 1 to 3 hours you can be in the mountains skiing, or casinos in AC, walking on the beach/boardwalk and the food is the best. I have always found the people to be very friendly (as long as you are) and you would definately meet some characters.
I think high-density cities are the best (NYC, Boston, DC, San Francisco, etc.) as not only do you meet more people just in passing on a daily basis, but the opportunities for exploring so many different activities and parts of your personality are all the more present. People also tend to be fairly open to meeting new people in these cities as they're fairly cosmopolitan so you have less of the unfriendly provincial attitudes you may face in smaller cities and towns.
I'd choose Montreal for the multicultural feel in a North American setting.
