I-70 east to St Louis
I-64 east to Mt Vernon, Illinois
I-57 to
I-24 east to Nashville, TN
I-65 south to Birmingham, AL
I-20 east to Atlanta

This avoids Monteagle, which has a fairly long downgrade, and avoids Chattanooga. Also avoids the somewhat hilly/mountainous terrain of Southern Missouri and Arkansas. This route is about a 13-14 hour drive, the fastest route is just short of 12 hours(which goes thru Monteagle and Chattanooga).

Yes this is the best route, the suggestion of going all the way to Dallas is ridiculous. Those most direct route through Nashville and Chattanooga will definitely have a lot of higher terrain to drive though.

Edit: I didn't realize Southern Missouri and Arkansas were hilly/mountainous so if that's the case then the post above me is likely the best route. The route through Memphis is about 12 1/2-13 hours so the route above is adding maybe an extra hour or so.

^^Going through southern Missouri on 60/63, there's very little in the way of hills to actually deal with. The routes the roads take along with MO's reasonably good infrastructure means that you barely realize you're in the Ozarks.
Arkansas used to be more primitive, still is compared to MO, but they've improved 63 enough so that it's no longer intimating to most people. Even before, it wasn't that bad.

I-24 through Tennessee is a bad interstate to deal with.
Going through Memphis is equally terrible but you can be out of it a little quicker going the general directions we're talking about here.
The route I gave would be a much more relaxing drive in terms of traffic.
