Could you write down he names of all 50 states in, say, 5 minutes?
Can you place them all on an outline map?
Can you draw a fairly accurate map of the states, free-hand? At least getting adjacency correct.

How about Canadian provinces?
Mexican states?

I taught myself to do the first four when I was in 5th grade. Glad I did, it was easy then.

Mexican states I didn't learn unil I had to navigate them in my car.

I just tried drawing a (crude) labeled county map of Oregon on my phone. I got them all.

I think it is time for me to focus my energy on something else LOL

When I was in like 3rd grade, I would draw a map of California first and then every state that bordered CA and then Id add neighboring states like a jigsaw puzzle all the way to Maine and Florida. Geography was(is) my thing.

Most people had to learn all 50 capitals in elementary school, let alone states. I was bummed I got a 96, because I got Illinois’ and Iowa’s capital mixed up.

I also had several placemats from Canada with pictures of Ottawa and Niagara and whatnot. But on the back of each was a cartoon map of Canada and it’s provinces, so I learned them.

I could name maybe 3 Mexican states, one of them being Veracruz where my great-grandfather was an elected federal deputy in the 30s. I just never got around to learning more.

I mentally visualize the US and can name the states right to left, left to right, etc. I’m curious if anyone else does it this way.

US - Yes to all. I have been exposed to maps of the US for decades. I don't know the names of all the capitals, though, I admit!

Canada - Yes to all. Very easy as there are not many provinces and the majority of them border the US.

Mexico - I only know the discrete locations of the border states, Durango,NL, Jalisco, DF, Oaxaca, Yucatan, Quintana Roo, and Chiapas. There are several Mexican states whose name I recognize but I can't quite place them. Like Michoacan, for example. I know it is in southern Mexico west of Mexico City, but does it border Oaxaca? Does it border Guerrero? I would have to look at a map.

I too learned all the US states, capitals, locations, etc. in the 5th grade.
I couldn't name all of the Mexican states, but I could do all of the Canadian provinces and territories.
