East Texas. All the creepiness of SW Louisiana woods and bayous, add in a little Texas Chainsaw Massacre vibe.

New Orleans does have the voodoo though its played up for tourists.

Savannah, Georgia is allegedly the most haunted city in the nation.

Not even just Boston, the entirety of New England and the Hudson Valley of New York are great places to celebrate Halloween.

I went to the headless horseman haunted house attraction in the Hudson Valley a few weekends back and it was pretty decently themed. Was it scary? That’s a whole other story Lmao

New Orleans always felt kitschy. New England feels too Revolutionary to be scary. Savannah and Charleston ghost tours felt like historic tours done at night. The Williamsburg tour was decently creepy, though I wonder if it was simply because it was so quiet (though my son swears he saw a baby’s head in the window while we listened to a story involving, among other things, a dead kid; and I’ll be honest he half-convinced me I saw something). But I’m not sure it feels spooky per se.

Probably simply because of Irving, the Hudson Valley, at least in my mind’s eye, feels decently spooky. Covered bridges, old Dutch farmsteads, deserted roads, all the hallmarks I need to be scared.

Surprised nobody mentioned Detroit. While it's no where near what it was in the 60s-90s, where Devil's Night was basically a real-life purge (though mostly purging abandoned buildings/homes via arson), it still seems synonymous with the city.

Purge never felt like a spooky movie, and crime doesn’t feel “spooky” either. I guess we all have different thoughts when we hear that word though.

Bates City, Missouri, has a "Bates City Motel". I used to drive past it, even the sign looked creepy.

Outside of the obvious ones, Maine has the Stephen King factor going for it.

Back from a visit to Chicago last week; very impressed with the effort residents made in decorating their homes—at least in the Gold Coast district.

That being said if this post extends to North America, Mexico City is right up there….they go all out for Dia de los Muertos. I went 2 years ago and had a blast.
