That gives at least some time for our kids to grow up!
I live in Denver area and yes, there are a lot of pot shops but unless you are looking for it, it just isn't something that overwhelms you. No, there are not endless people out on the streets lighting it up.
People aren't on the streets asking you for a joint or selling you something.
The fact that it's legal now and is on the "surface" only makes it easier for people who want access to it to get it. If it's not your thing, you won't even notice that it's around.
I apologize for getting upset about what parents and children are enduring with mandates and now (in my opinion), radical curriculum and school boards.
I wanted to tell you that I recently spent many days at my local hospital due to a family member’s surgery. I had three medical professionals chat with me about how they had changed jobs from a hospital in a bigger city nearby to move their families to my smaller city for much the same concerns you have. All had tears in their eyes with the concern and love of a parent.
One nurse was homeschooling until she could move. I guess this is a big trend for parents now. I know it seems daunting, but many parents are choosing to tackle it. Another professional was planning on private schooling. It does seem that smaller, conservative cities are moderating or rejecting the mandates and are respectful of parents concerns.
Again, my apologies for getting upset. I honestly felt so much pain from the parents, I share it deeply. I have strong feelings against mandates for youth and now activism on top of it. I can’t get the parents sad eyes out of my thoughts.
My city is Carson City, Nevada. We have some public transportation. We have good schools here, it’s Las Vegas dragging the stats down. Most of the smaller cities here didn’t force mandates so much and have respectful school boards. We love our families and youth and try to moderate stressful conditions. Our area has expensive housing, unfortunately. The South is definitely more affordable.
I might have missed most comments on this thread because of strong feelings about what our youth are enduring. I just wanted to see if a small town that’s walkable would be an option for you. Any larger city might have the conditions you want to protect your child/children from.
Covid mask mandates will be gone at some point in 2022. I wouldn't base a permanent, long term decision on a temporary state of affairs.
I know it's been a long time....but it shouldn't be much longer.
Mask mandates have been gone in the city where I live since May 2021. The mayor was wise not to reinstate them later that summer when delta filled the local hospital's ICU ward. Evidently, the mayor learned that the mask mandate didn't work to keep the hospital from being overwhelmed during Jan. 2021.

Thank you! Yes smaller cities will be good too. The only real reason for a larger city was more things to do for kids and more opportunities for museums, clubs etc. So if there are smaller cities that have good educational infrastructure, that will work as well!! We will definitely look at Carson City. If we have to increase our budget, we will find a way to do that. Other criteria are definitely more important.
And I don't think you should apologize so much, your comments were great and I highly value everyone's opinions! Thank you again

I don't take mask mandates into consideration at all. I know this is all in flux and may change at any point. We are basing more on the educational development rather than covid restrictions

In that case, there are plenty of places that you could choose from. Look into some of the areas mentioned already and go from there.
