If you wanted to live in a new area for 6 months, and then move on, what are the reasonable housing options? Apartmens rarely offer leases of less than a year, except in high-cost vacation areas.
This was inspired by the thought that I've already lived in 13 states, maybe I could go for all the rest.
There will be short term rentals available, and yes, they cost more than long term rentals. But because they are for several months, they are not usually vacation rentals, which tend to be quite expensive.
There are people like traveling nurses who rent short term and there are landlords who cater to them. Sorry, I can't remember the name of the website that lists those rentals, but you could probably find it with a little google time.
Every city will have extended-stay hotels with monthly rates. They'll be pretty expensive but they're furnished, they come with all the services, and you can bail at any time.
I did this for four months once. Not bad. But get one with a real kitchen rather than a microwave and mini-fridge.
A lot of bigger cities have large apartment complexes that are more flexible with lease terms.
I’ve seen 3 and 6 month leases in some of these places. 6 month seems quite common.
1 year leases always seemed a bit too much to me for rentals, especially for apartments.
I can better understand that for single family homes in neighborhoods.
Anyway, another option would be to buy an RV. Some RV parks will allow long term stays and charge buy the month.
You’d never have to pack, just hookup and go on to the next place.

I was thinking of places where you'd feel "at home" -- home cooke mears, couple of rooms you can spread out in or have guests.
I had places seaasonallt in northern Michigan an the coast of California. Very cheap out of seasin. But I inquired in Hatteras area, they're the same year around.
