thanks PC! i did a quick google search for "mobile alabama gay choir" prior to my post, but of course the word "mobile" does tend to complicate such searches haha. appreciate the correction. i think birmingham and mobile do stand out above other cities in the state.
San Francisco
Oakland
LA (Long Beach/West Hollywood/Silverlake)
San Diego (Hillcrest)
Sacramento (Midtown)
Worth mentioning: Palm Springs, Guerneville, Laguna Beach
It's a pretty great state to live/visit, overall. I've never really experienced any memorable type of discrimination anywhere in the state (not even in really rural/conservative parts of CA) since nobody cares. Prop 8 actually passing seems like forever ago, but I have no doubt some places are worse than others.
Baltimore
College Park
Takoma Park
Columbia
Annapolis
Most of the I-95 corridor overall is fine with a lot of those blue LGBTQ-Friendly stickers at many businesses, including Giant Food. I'd stay away from Cecil County, the eastern shore outside of Salisbury, Ocean City, and Easton, far southern MD, and Garrett/Allegany Counties.
These definitely lead the pack, but there is a pretty active LGT scene in Springfield, and Cape would then be my 5th? Joplin seems like it is stepping up and I saw adds for Joplin Pride this year.
1) Iowa City (home of the University of Iowa) is definitely the best by a long shot and a growing city.
2) Des Moines (largest city in Iowa)
3) Cedar Rapids (located 25 miles north of Iowa City).

About the Eastern shore, it seems Talbot and Kent counties are the ones that went for Biden. Maybe add St. Michaels and Chestertown to your list. Maybe more.
My impression is that Ames leans more conservative compared to the other cities I listed. A college Christian Republican club and their sentiment about LGBTQs. Also during the Trump fiasco with Muslims when he first became President, a large facility in Ames next to the college sponsored Republican clubs siding with Trump on that issue. Also, Bob Vanderplatts of the FAMiLY LEADER in Iowa has held summits in Ames. He has a history of equating homosexuals to incest; he is a religious/political extremist IMO.
