I could have chosen Brooklyn or Queen's but opted for Jersey and no one can really convince me that I’m not “experiencing” NYC the right way because if it. Manhattan is the main reason I came here (for work) and I’d argue that my experience in NYC area is more obscurely defined than your typical transplant who moved to Williamsburg or Bushwick.
Ideally, I look to New England (Portland Maine in particular) as the place I dream of settling down someday. The history, the walkability and ocean breeze is what I love without the extreme heat or overwhelming amounts of tourism and transplants. It has just the right amount of life without being totally isolated/rural or void of culture.

Yeah its usually the status-chasing transplants who go to NYC who crap on NJ. Usually people who hate on NJ have a power trip thing they need to work on within themselves . Overall... I agree, JC is where to be. Especially if your younger. Close to beaches, mountains, cities, bars, nightclubs, airports. You have it all. World at your hands.
Portland is nice. Sophisticated yet quaint. Love the setting and walkability. People are down to earth.
Great post overall.
