Vantage Point Terrace Malibu, CA 90265. has door numbers in 24000 (24707 seems highest there )- is this the highest numbered address in USA?
Also how is such a large number allocated to such a small road?

There are addresses like 35200 in Wilmington IL, a very small town about 45 miles south of Chicago. The numbering is continuous from Chicago. I'm sure there are bigger numbers than that too, also continuing from a relatively far-away place.

There are addresses in northern Hamilton County Indiana that extend to almost 30000; which is a continuation of Indianapolis numbering.

South of Elkhart, IN there are addresses on State Route 19 that go into the 70000's. For example, there is a warehouse with this address:

66485 State Road 19, Wakarusa, IN 46573

The numbering goes over 70000 for a bit until it enters Nappanee, IN where that town has its own numbering system.

In North Carolina, the numbering is in the 40000s in places.

Where I live in Georgia, we only have three or four number addresses.

I just found this directory listing

Lucich Farms (760) 393-0227
96075 70th Ave, Mecca, CA

No, wait, this has gotta be it:

North Shore Fire Station
99065 Corvina Drive, Mecca, CA 92254-5001

No, wait, a little way further down the road, they keep going up from there, hyphenating the number:

Salton Sea State Recreation
100-225 State Park Road, North Shore, CA 92254

Interesting you mention this, because I was JUST thinking today how much I love it when I live in a 4-number address area -- Currently my address is 3174, and priors have been 6400, 4522 and 5421. Also some 3's (121 and 134) and a 2 (17)! I really can't stand the 5 digits for some reason!

In Germantown, Maryland the addresses go up to the mid or high 20,000s (meaning that it's the equivalent of 250 or so city blocks from the U.S. Capitol building in D.C. some 25 - 30 miles away).

In Alachua County, outside the college-city of Gainesville FL, and Marion County outside Ocala FL, the rural roads way out in the country are given names like 200th Street and 300th Street even though they are very rural.

Lots of rural areas will have huge house numbers, because it's based around the entire county. I remember places in Iowa on the other side of the county from where the numbering started being up in at least the 10,000 to 50,000.

That's not true in all states. In Wisconsin and Illinois, addresses outside city jurisdiction have county coordinate numbers, which have been created in cooperation with the post office to aid in rural delivery. An address in Wisconsin might be something like W7832 N11900 Suchandsuch street. Which means 7.8 miles west and 11.9 miles north of some central reference point.

In a lot of other states, some (but not all) counties have county-wide zoning, which gives the county the power to designate addresses, trumping the power of the developers to assign numbers, but the developers can still name streets.

In Minnesota and Upper Michigan, rural houses have a uniform "fire number" posted on a sign at the driveway, to enable firemen to locate a place where there is a fire call.
