Yeah I think about the only thing left from our big push to use the metric system 30 years ago is the 2-liter soda bottle.
I travel a lot to China and France (the country that invented the metric system) and it takes only a day or two to get used to using the metric system, and vice-versa. I just look at it as one of the fun things about traveling. It doesn't bother me at all that we don't use it here in the USA.
the only reason that caught on was because it was smaller and they could charge the same price......
I agree....if you wanna learn it to impress your friends....by all means do so....I used it when I lived in France....it was easy to switch in and easy to switch out.....
I'll keep using non-metric measurements even if there's a switch, just as my little way of not going along with globalism. That and I don't find our system complicated at all...grow up using it and it's easy. Sounds to me like some foreigner came here and wants us to change to suit him...
First of all, the metric system sounds silly when you are trying to describe something. For example, if you see a tall person and say, woah he's at least 230cm tall! I think saying, he's almost 8 feet tall!, Is far more 'impressive'.
Kilometers are ridiculous. A lot of countries still use miles (even the UK does!). My mind is just not geared to think in 'Kilometers'.
Celsius is also a bit off. There is way too much variance and distance between units. When I hear 'its going to be 33C today' I reach for my jacket!
Metric makes calculations and such much easier, but I don't see why the United States has to conform to satisfy the rest of the worlds ways. I thought we were supposed to symbolize being different, not conforming.
It's part of human nature to be resistant to change, unless there is a pressing reason to do so.
There is nothing pressuring the US to change from Imperial to Metric. Everyone here is familiar with our system, and complaints from people abroad hardly will affect US citizens so...it's tough nuggets.
sorry guy...i think the US is doing just fine with our own systems , thanks for the concern there buddy
