Charlotte's grid is off true north by about 45 degrees making Southend really to the southwest of the city center.

Southeast Minneapolis is north of the southeastern part of the city. The southeastern part of the city is just south Minneapolis.

Here's a good general visualization site: https://geoffboeing.com/2018/07/comp...-orientations/

Boston Proper: https://i0.wp.com/geoffboeing.com/wp...smnx.png?ssl=1

The following linked visual gives a sense for the variety of grid orientations in the urban core of Greater Boston (not just Boston Proper):

The 'colored by orientation' figure is interesting, I'd never seen that.
In Boston, South Boston is certainly south of Boston proper but north and east of most of the territory within Boston city limits.
Brooklyn, NY, had a similar thing, with South Brooklyn being due south of the original Brooklyn settlement but north and west of most of what later became Brooklyn--i.e., all of Kings County. But "South Brooklyn" as everyday term has given way to constituent neighborhoods: Cobble Hill, Carroll Gardens, Boerum Hill, Gowanus and Red Hook.

Given the radial nature of the heart of downtown Boston (a lot of intersections that the senses assume are at right angles are so *not* at right angles), going to South Boston *feels* like heading East rather than South, and heading to East Boston *feels* like heading North, since the tunnels head directly under the North End.
