I like Popeyes and Chik fil a for chains. KFC original is good when done well. They’re not super consistent.
Missouri also has a place called Lee’s that I like a lot. They have locations around St. Louis but I’ve been to one in Rolla a couple times.
Kansas City area has Go Chicken Go.
I guess those small local chains would be my absolute favorites.
I drive out of my way to buy Frenchy’s chicken. A New Orleans native who settled in Houston so technically a Texas restaurant. People also rave about the fried chicken at BBQ Inn on Yale. I usually pass because it’s a 20 minute wait. They make it fresh.
I voted Louisiana based on the choices listed.
Some years back, Frenchys announced a national expansion with a target of 500 locations. It didn’t go well. I recall people saying that the locations outside of main weren’t nearly as good. Sucks. Would’ve been cool to have Frenchys while traveling

I did not know that! Seems like they are going backwards. I thought the new Scott St. location would be better but the drive-thru is still 10 cars deep! Chicken is awesome though…
Louisiana gave rise to BOTH Popeyes and Raising Cane's which are far superior to KFC and Zaxby's respectively. A lot of local restaurants also have good Southern fried chicken. Chick fil A is also very popular here despite not starting in Louisiana. Likewise while Chicken Salad Chick was started in Alabama it has many locations in Louisiana as well and is popular.
Georgia would be number 2. It's where Chick fil A is from, and, also, I've personally visited Paula Deen's Lady and Sons in Savannah and that fried chicken is the absolute best.
Also I don’t know if Popeyes tastes better the closer you are to Louisiana or something, but meh. Bojangles is another one where there is a divide between corporate-owned stores and franchisees (better in the rural hinterlands without corporate supervision).
