When the wind is blowing the wrong way, Amarillo has the most nauseating stench I've ever experienced and it's not a bad city at all. But that smell!!
The worst stench I've smelled (and us New Mexicans are familiar with dairy smell) was a little south in the panhandle between Amarillo and Lubbock, just east of Texico. It was in my best description a mix of cattle, sewage, and eggs, against a strong sulfur backdrop. That description doesn't do it any justice, though.
Anyone who is curious as to what a paper mill smells like, it is like a mixture of rotten eggs, dog s--t, bad foot odor, and wood chips. Three of those smells would be horrible on their own, but the four smells combine to make super horrible odor.
More like bursting baby diapers than dog poop.
Any concentration of bars, drunks, bums, and/or untended dogs gets vile really fast, in any city. The 3 P's is what some friends called the stinks.
I just got back from New Orleans..... Love the city but it smells bad! Sewer plus the swampy muggy air plus whatever else to make it so bad.
SF has the worst smelling homeless people. I never knew people could smell so bad. It literally made me want to puke. Not having any rain for most of year doesn't help I'm sure.
Delhart Texas -- the cattle feedlots are visible by satellite and they maybe can smell them too. That's southwest of Guyman OK so you can easily experience both in about an hour. Decatur Illinois smells like soybeans. Atresia NM is also stinky. They always say that's the smell of money -- I don't think so.
New Orleans is a great city but phew, it doesn't smell so nice
Philadelphia smells horrible, and NYC smells awful as well.
I don't know if the plant is still there, but I remember as a kid there was a rendering/meat packing plant in Waterloo IA that smelled freaking horrid.
Major cities smell. In other news, grass is green and water is wet.
